Hands-on with Facebook's unreleased dating features on iOS – 9to5Mac

Facebook announced its new dating service at F8 earlier this year. Codenamed “Gemstone”, the project is supposed to be a competitor to other dating services such as Tinder and Match, with one major advantage: it’s going to be a feature inside the main Facebook app.

While the app is still in beta, and meant for Facebook developers only, we were able to gain exclusive screenshots of its onboarding process on iOS.

The process to create a dating profile is very simple, it starts with an alert that’s targeted at Facebook employees who are testing the feature internally. It also informs the user that data from the Dating profile is not shared to their main Facebook profile, which means that even your current Facebook friends won’t be able to see your dating profile by default. The user must then specify their gender, select their interest, specify their location and select a picture for their dating profile (which can be different from their main profile).

After the onboarding process concludes, it shows the user a preview of their profile. We haven’t been able to finish the setup because the server is clearly rejecting the registration since the account is not of a Facebook employee, but this onboarding has given us a sneak peek at what this feature is going to look like when it ships to all users later this year.
