Buying a new laptop, like almost any new electronic device purchase, requires an investment of time and money. When you start shopping, it can be overwhelming. This is why most consumers, myself included, go to trusted sources with rock-solid, understandable return policies. And you cannot go wrong with Walmart’s 15-day guarantee on electronics this Labor Day holiday shopping weekend.

I have been in the market for a new laptop for a while. In fact, I have been trying to decide if I would make the leap to an Chromebook as my portable work machine, and in the course of my research, I actually went into my local Walmart and purchased the Samsung Chromebook 3 listed below.

Why am I such a Chromebook fan? First, in my mind, a Chromebook is like one of those petite Smart cars. It will get you from Point A to Point B but it doesn’t have all the bells, whistles, and space of a full-size vehicle. But you don’t always need a full-size car, nor do you always need a full laptop with Windows 10 or MacOS, so If you can live with getting from Point A to Point B, then a Chromebook is worth considering.

Here are some other top Labor Day laptop deals at Walmart:

Acer Spin 1, 11.6″ HD Touch Notebook

This affordable Acer Spin is a bit of a hybrid between tablet and notebook (really, a small-ish laptop) is 23 percent off during Labor Day weekend—reduced from $299 to $229. It comes loaded with Windows 10 Home in S mode (which means it can only load apps from the Microsoft Store, and that could be a major negative, depending on your needs). It is a portable 11.6″ touch laptop that converts from a laptop to a tablet (or a display type setup) by simply spinning the 360° hinge into position.

Acer CB3-532-C47C 15.6″ Chromebook

The Acer 15″ model is one of the larger Chromebooks I found on sale for Labor Day weekend and while it may a bigger screen and keyboard, it only has 2GB of RAM. (You can always purchase additional RAM to keep the machine zipping along.) The 16GB hard drive is also bit tiny, frankly, but you can add more storage with a small and affordable USB drive. You mostly live in the cloud with these Chromebooks anyway, so you are not relying on physical, onboard storage as much. At $149, down from its original $199 price, this is a solid Labor Day deal.

ASUS VivoBook F510QA 15.6” WideView FHD Laptop

This ASUS VivoBook has a generous 15.6″ screen in an affordable laptop loaded with Windows 10 (again in S mode). It has 4GB of RAM and 128GB hard drive, so it provides above-average storage for this $259 sale price—or 35% off the $399 original price).

SAMSUNG 11.6″ Chromebook 3

This is the Chromebook I purchased from my local Walmart. The 4GB of RAM helps it run quickly and without much lag. To be honest, I probably won’t keep it, as the 11.6″ size is just a little too small for me—particularly the keyboard. I’ll probably swap it out for Acer above with a 15.6″ screen (which means a slightly bigger keyboard, too). But for only $159, the Samsung is tempting to keep because of its light weight and slim profile. I see it as a great value from the original $219 price.

HP 14 Slim Laptop, 14″ HD Display

This 14″ laptop from HP is slim, lightweight, and has a strong, long-lasting battery. It comes loaded with Windows 10 Home in S mode, but some users “break free” of S mode and run other apps. (That’s worth investigating if you find you need more than this restricted S mode.) With 4GB of RAM, it might be tough to break out too far, however. Then again, you’ll have some extra spending money to do so as this laptop is marked down from $379 to $269.

Lenovo 81JW0001US Chromebook S330, 14″ HD Display

Lenovo is another great computer brand on sale for Labor Day weekend. These machines are known to be tough, stable workhorses. For only $179 (reduced from $299), this Chromebook is loaded with a decent amount of RAM (4GB) and a generous 32GB solid state drive (SSD) hard drive for storage. The 14-inch size may be just big enough to make the keyboard ample for bigger hands and still light enough for portability.

Dell Laptop 15.6″ FHD

Okay, the $849 price may give some people sticker-shock, but going with my opening metaphor, this is a full-size luxury car compared to the other computers on this list. (And it’s reduced from $1,099.) So, if you need a powerhouse machine for work or school or are just taking advantage of the good Labor Day holiday deals, this Dell 15.6-inch laptop is loaded with 16GB RAM, a fast 256GB SSD, plus a 1TB standard hard drive. It also has the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB for graphics.
